A Spiritual Living Retreat
“We can worship God as Father, but we can also worship God as the Divine Mother—for Mother is closer than the Father.” – Paramahansa Yogananda
We invite you to this 3-day weekend to deeply immerse yourself in the sacred presence and mystical experience of the Divine Mother, through Paramahansa Yogananda’s path of meditation, devotion and chanting. There will be an opportunity to experience a traditional Kali Puja, which Paramahansa Yogananda performed regularly during his youth (as described in the book Mejda). Before going to America, he performed his very last Kali Puja, but his inner communion and devotion to Her never ended—even in America, Yoganandaji spoke often of Divine Mother, and composed many chants to Kali such as Blue Lotus Feet, Thousands of Suns, Receive Me On Thy Lap, Om Kali and more. Tune into the ecstatic love that Paramahansa Yogananda—and many other great Masters—experienced with the Divine Mother, who is both our eternally loving mother and the Cosmic Mother. Learn about this ancient theology of the Motherhood of God, and develop your own personal relationship with Her. Led by Naren K. Schreiner and Lopamudra Bose, who are both trained in India’s traditional worship of Divine Mother, this retreat is an opportunity to join other devotees in the serene and beautiful land of Song of the Morning, and draw ever nearer to the Divine Mother.
What to Bring for Retreat:
- Offerings for Kali Puja (flowers, sweets (egg free), nuts, fruits, monetary offering)
- Journal and/or notebook
- Meditation shawl
- Clothing for puja should be respectful such as Indian clothing
Saturday Evening: The community meditation on Saturday night will take place as part of a devotional service for Divine Mother from 7-9pm. This will give us a wonderful opportunity to join together, both community and retreat, in devotion to Divine Mother and in deep meditation. The two hour period begins with prayer and chanting, and for two hours it will weave together meditation, chanting and the devotional ceremony, with readings by Master about Divine Mother. All are welcome from 7-9pm. A period of chanting will take place around 8pm for those who wish to arrive at that time.
Meals: If you wish to join for meals, that option is available during registration. If you need a reduced cost for meals to make attending possible, please reach out and we can arrange that!
Retreat Fee: The Retreat and Naren are working together to make it possible for those who are here helping to build and grow SOM to participate in these retreats. We don’t want cost to be a limiting factor, and want it to be as easy as possible to join. There is no cost for joining the program! For logistical purposes, we do need folks to register through this page, which requires no payment (unless you add meals.)
